Friday - Ajuga

Stress Reliever

It's been a emotionally painful, stressful day and so dh and I took a walk this evening. It wasn't always brisk, since I took my camera along. There are several trees in the middle of the lake which are resting spots for some huge birds... herons or ibises, I'm not sure which. And we caught glimpses of the moon through the tree limbs.

The walk with the camera did me good. Just pausing to really see the world the Lord has made filled me with joy and peace.

The heavens declare the glory of God;

the skies proclaim the work of his hands.

Day after day they pour forth speech;

night after night they display knowledge.

There is no speech or language

where their voice is not heard.

Tabled Evidence

Today I passed our table and noticed all the bits of evidence left there from the people who spend time in this house. My coffee mug was there, a napkin (hopefully clean!) left from a meeting I had, Selah's stuffed pig, Stephanie's mug with tea still in it, a World magazine Laura had been reading while eating, a Sudoku book that several people have worked on, a book Juli's reading, and Vitamin C that Jerry takes.

I see this view every time I return home from taking Julianna to gymnastics. This is a bridge across the Mississippi River.

Selah's six months old now and full of personality! I've been trying to get a good picture of her for several days and I'm going with two I took today. I really need to work on pictures of people and she's one subject frequently at hand. She has a good attitude even if she does move a lot!

She's a Winner!

She's always a winner to me, but today she won in the state gymnastics meet! Juli got first in floor and bars and first all-around! My dh got better pictures, some of which I'll post elsewhere this week.

Spring! It's Official!

Friday, March 16

I see these Bradford pears everytime I travel between home and gymnastics. The shape of their bare limbs is simple and beautiful. Now that spring is here they're being clothed and soon we won't see their shape, it will simply be a mass of white blossoms at first and then green leaves.

Taming of the Shrew Take Two

What can I say? We had lots of fun with Taming of the Shrew today (again). Last day on Shakespeare for the high schoolers for this year, though.

Groans, Moans, and Giggles

Tonight was one of those spontaneously fun nights when everyone is in a good mood all at the same time. Somehow after supper we ended up in our front room doing exercises, with Juli as our trainer. First we did stretches, then the girls tried bridges, then we were stretched by Juli. As Stephanie lay face pressed to the floor, arms stretched behind her with Juli pulling up, I heard her moan, "Owww... this is nice.... owww... it hurts but I don't have to do any work." We've decided to do this more often!

Redbud

We went to friends' for a crawfish boil this afternoon. The redbud are blooming and rain purpley-pink blossoms.

Azaleas

If there's any flower that says "spring" in the deep South it's the azaleas. These are from our yard. We have many more that will be blooming in the next few weeks.

Mother-Daughter Friday Night

I have to include a photo of our favorite Friday night activity. Juli and I attend LSU gymnastics meets when the team is home. Tonight's meet was a good one. Four LSU gymnasts scored a 9.9 or over on the floor.

Tongue Twisters

Try saying "The lips, the teeth, the tip of the tongue; the tip of the tongue, the teeth, and the lips," several times very quickly. Then say "Girl gargoyle, boy gargoyle" quickly a few times. That's what my middle schoolers are doing here. We were warming up for Shakespeare. I couldn't get a really good picture, so this will have to do. Oh and here's a great Shakespeare line that we had lots of fun with: "Tush, tush! Fear boys with bugs."And I took a picture of a picture today. This is one Laura, our resident art student, took of our dd. She did a series of photos of dd that are all unusual. Her art teacher copied them to use to show future students some good work. There is no double exposure here. The picture was taken through two windows, with a reflection. (The glare in the bottom left corner is from me; it's not there in hers.)

I took lots of flower shots today... spring is my favorite season here in the South... but settled on this one. It struck me as I fed Selah today how her spoon looked almost aerodynamic. It's very long and graceful. Let me tell you, baby spoons have changed quite a bit from when I fed my babies!

We ate lunch in a small local Mexican restaurant. We felt like the foreigners there! This statue of Mary was by the entrance, almost completely surrounded by vases of roses.

Trampoline fun!

A Pet.... What?

Yes... you are seeing right! They're baby alligators. We were at friends' for church community group last night and were greeted outside by children toting baby alligators... their new "pets," 19 in all.

First Fruit

People don't generally associate strawberries with Louisiana, but the ones grown here are sweet and satisfying, everything a strawberry should be. The best part is that the season lasts almost two months, so I'm looking forward to eating a whole lot more! Yum! Yum!

Home Again

The martins are back! Evidently they liked the way we cleaned their house and have decided to set up housekeeping in it again. We have four. I guess one couple lives upstairs and the other downstairs!
Last year as I watched a mama martin coaxing her babies to fly a hawk swooped down and grabbed one of the young ones. So we weren't sure if they'd want to use our house this year again. Apparently they haven't held it against us. It is great to have them back. I love to hear them "talking" above me as I work in the garden and watch them fly in larger and larger circles in the sky.

Taming of the Shrew

My lit class did a spontaneous performance of "Shakespeare in a Box," a condensed version of Taming of the Shrew, in class today. This is Grumio... Kate and Petruchio Hortensio, Petruchio, and Baptista
We laughed a lot and had fun with it! I was busy reading along with them, so I don't have great shots. But this is definitely the memory of the day. They asked to do more Shakespeare, so I'm changing the game plan for the class and we'll continue with the Bard some more next week. Donne will have to wait!
