Home Again

The martins are back! Evidently they liked the way we cleaned their house and have decided to set up housekeeping in it again. We have four. I guess one couple lives upstairs and the other downstairs!
Last year as I watched a mama martin coaxing her babies to fly a hawk swooped down and grabbed one of the young ones. So we weren't sure if they'd want to use our house this year again. Apparently they haven't held it against us. It is great to have them back. I love to hear them "talking" above me as I work in the garden and watch them fly in larger and larger circles in the sky.

Aren't you impressed that you got two on the birdhouse at the same time? Way to go! This is so neat to see you succeed attracting martins! Great photo memories now.

I love the duplex! They like to live in groups, don't they? What have you learned about attracting Martins? Maybe we should give it a try.

Until I saw the photo of the martins on the wires, I had forgotten that my grandparents had homes for them every year. It's amazing the images buried in our minds!

Very neat photo of the upstairs/downstairs preparation. :-)
