Quack, Quack

As we walked today we saw many ducks in and around the lake. Lots of duck couples waddling along (How hard to be romantic if you're a duck, but perhaps that waddle is quite the thing!) or swimming and splashing in the water, and a few mamas and papas with only one duckling... Like this one: And this one:
And then we saw a mama out in the water with her large family! These are slightly older ducklings. I'm wondering if her head start in hatching gave her young ones a head start in survival.

Very cute! I haven't seen any ducklings in the park yet, and I'm afraid it is because of the vigilant hawks who live there. :-(

We have our pair that come back every year, but I rarely see them with babies because we also have hawks and owls as well as many other furry predators like raccoons, possiums, and even a fox. Each year I hold out hope that they will at least get to raise one or two babies.

Fun! I read once that even large catfish will eat baby ducklings. Isn't that sad?

These are such cute pictures. How fun. The ducks here live and eat in the garbage dump... not so cute.

I have a lot of duck picture from our anniversary trip. There were so many beautiful ducks & families at the park we visited. There was one pair that looked suspiciously like John and I. ;-)

You are blessed to have such a nice place to walk!!
